Alocrom

Alocrom

Chromate conversion offers a cost effective non-electrolytic process for coating aluminium resulting in excellent corrosion resistance, a good pre-paint finish and good adhesion qualities. The surface thickness of an Alocrom coating is about 2µm thick.

Usually chromate conversion coatings are specified for corrosion resistance, low electrical contact resistance on aluminium.

Alocrom 1000 is a clear to colourless coating used for low electrical contact resistance (currently not offered).

Alocrom 1200 is a yellow to brown coating used as a base for paint or for improved corrosion resistance.

Alocrom plating, also known as chromate conversion coatings, is a slight variation of aluminium anodosing whereby the coating’s end result provides a greater level of corrosion resistance. Furthermore, the final coating provides a low electrical resistance. Chromate conversion coatings are most commonly used as a base coat to provide protection before painting.

Alocrom is a Chromate conversion coating that is applied to aluminium alloys, which provides a level of corrosion protection. Alocrom is also good for paint adhesion and is electrically conductive.

It should be noted that Alocrom is a hexavalent chrome process that is under threat from the REACH regulations and a usage sunset date just a few years away. However, we will be offering an alternative soon.
