Zinc Plating

Zinc plating is a form of electrochemical galvanisation.

The passivation on zinc gives an extra protection and determines its final colour. Zinc plating is available on components made of steel, copper or brass in vat or barrel version.

Barrel plating is available in acid based zinc solution, which is ideal for small items like bolts, fixings, perfect for cast material.

Rack plating is available in cyanide based zinc solution, which is used for medium to large items.

For any high-tensile items we can offer de-embrittling process after plating.

This process involves zinc being electro deposited on to metal parts in a tank with a water based electrolytic solution. We offer both Cyanide Zinc & Acid Zinc rack process’s to enable us to plate most steels and castings. We can plate up to a thickness of 25um on most parts. The zinc accumulates on the surface of a part, following its surface / contours. Material quality is very important when it comes to zinc plating. Any defects on the base metal will be visible after plating. This means parts that are dented, scratched or corroded, will show these defects after plating.

The passivation of zinc parts in any of our four available finishes (yellow, clear, black and olive drab) improve the corrosion resistance of the parts and essentially, act as a seal for the zinc plating. Zinc plating is ROHS compliant and we can offer a ROHS compliant passivate in both thick film iridescent colour and clear / bright / blue (BZP). We can also offer a ROHS compliant iridescent black alternative, if requested.

Additional salt corrosion protection can also be obtained by the addition of a final lacquer coat to the article.

For smaller parts, we can offer barrel plating in both BZP & Yellow.

We also offer a de-embrittling process which is essential for removing the hydrogen that has been deposited on the parts during the zinc plating process ensuring the parts do not become brittle.

The chemistry used in our tanks are always maintained to the highest level. We achieve this through the use of our own laboratory facility and working closely with our chemical suppliers. This enables us to supply all customers with a certificate of conformity so they can be sure that the product supplied is to the correct specification.
